Plano is a city in Kendall County,
Illinois with strong agricultural roots. In 1834, Cyrus Hall McCormick
perfected and patented his father's mechanical reaper, then known as the Plano
Harvester. This innovation allowed farmers to double their crop size, and led
to a renewed interest in farm machinery that spawned several other agricultural
breakthroughs. The city carries the nickname "Birthplace of the
Harvester," and its local high school is nicknamed The Reapers.
